Major (Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel), 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Killed in action Tuesday 31st July 1917. Age 42. Three times mentioned in despatches. Son of James and Florence Margaret Sunderland, of Egginton Vicarage, Leighton Buzzard. Buried in BELGIAN BATTERY CORNER CEMETERYIeper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium BELGIAN BATTERY CORNER CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Grave I. F. 2.

[Listed as F C on memorial] Sergeant 10408, "D" Company, 6th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. Killed in action Friday 2nd November 1917 in France & Flanders. Age 28. Born Eggington, enlisted Leicester, resident Shuttleworth, Leicestershire. Son of Alfred and Charlotte Dudley, of Eggington, Leighton Buzzard. Enlisted in Aug., 1914. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 50 and 51.

Sergeant 16384, 8th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds Friday 13th October 1916 in France & Flanders. Age 24. Born Eggington, enlisted Leighton Buzzard, resident Dunstable. Son of Charles and Sarah Leach, of go, West St., Dunstable; husband of Maud Ellingham (formerly Leach), of "Rosemede", Houghton Rd., Dunstable. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIALSomme, France. Pier and Face 2 C.

Corporal 10669, 5th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Killed in action Thursday 24th August 1916 in France & Flanders. Age 27. Born and resident Eggington, enlisted Rugby, Warwickshire. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Sturman, of Eggington, Leighton Buzzard. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 10 A and 10 D.

Reginald Thomas

Private 5951976, 5th Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. Died on Thursday 24th June 1943. Age 23. Son of Thomas Cox, and of Annie Louise Cox, of Eggington. Prisoner of war. Buried in KANCHANABURI WAR CEMETERY, Thailand. Grave 2. M. 78.

Leslie Walter

Gunner 1629751, 356 Battery, 111 H.A.A. Regiment, Royal Artillery. Died Tuesday 8th April 1941. Age 20. Son of Walter and Lily Turner, of Eggington. Buried in EGGINGTON CHURCHYARD, north of church. See also Beaudesert School, Leighton Buzzard.
