Yorks Regt.)  Died Monday 22 April 1918.  Age 27.  Born Canterbury, Kent.  Enlisted Hull.  Son of Samuel & Agnes Burges of Froxfield, Woburn, Bedfordshire.  Commemorated on   Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.  Ref. Panel 108 –111.

[Arthur George on CWGC].  L/Cpl. 11648.  2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment.  Killed in action Saturday 16 September 1916.  Age 26.  Born and lived Eversholt.  Enlisted Devonport.  Son of Frederick & Alice Mary Cox of Eversholt, Woburn, Bedfordshire.  Commemorated on   Vermelles British Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France.  Ref. V.C.6.

Pte. 103470.  10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys. Regiment).  Formerly 17975, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, Transferred 7 April 1918 to Notts & Derby Regt.  Killed in action Sunday 21 April 1918.  Born Eversholt.  Enlisted Bedford.  Husband of Mrs Lillian Louisa Gazeley nee Puddick, 254 Lansdown Cottages, Bedford Road, Kempston. Wounded 5 October 1917. Commemorated on   Aveluy Wood Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart, Somme, France.  Ref. III.A.4.

Pte. 5089.  5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment.   Died of wounds Sunday 5 September 1915.  Lived Eversholt.  Enlisted Bedford.  Commemorated on   Embarkation Pier Cemetery, Turkey.  Ref. Sp. Mem. C.45.

Cook’s Mate 2nd Class.  M/7799 HMS “Aboukir”, Royal Navy.  Died Tuesday 22 September 1914.  Age 20.  Son of Charles & Mary Ann Miller of Upper Rads End, Eversholt, Woburn, Bedfordshire.  Commemorated on   Chatham Naval memorial, Kent.  Ref. 6.  (Special note:  In the early hours of the morning of 22 September 1914, HMS Aboukir along with HMS Cressy & HMS Hogue were sunk by torpedoes from a U-boat under the command of Otto Weddigen, in the North Sea.)

Pte 23746.  Depot, Bedfordshire Regiment.  Died at home Thursday 22 June 1916.  Born & lived Eversholt.  Enlisted Ampthill.  Commemorated on   Eversholt (St. John the Baptist) Churchyard, Bedfordshire.  West of the church.

L/Cpl 89B.  14th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps.  Died Sunday 4 November 1917.  Age 27.  Son of Richard & Kate Oakley of Church End, Eversholt.  Commemorated on Eversholt (St. John the Baptist) Churchyard, Bedfordshire.  North of the church.

Gdsmn. 316.  4th Battalion Guards Machine Gun Regiment (Formerly 16821 Grenadier Guards).  Died of wounds Tuesday 10 September 1918.  Born & lived Eversholt.  Enlisted Bedford.  Commemorated on   Bac-du-Sud British Cemetery, Bailleulval, Pas-de-Calais, France.  Ref. V.A.32.

Pte. 47784.  Depot, Welsh Regiment.  Died Saturday 1 May 1920.  Age 25.  Son Arthur William & Mary Harris of The Causeway, Eversholt.  His brother Cpl. G.T.H. Harris also fell.  Commemorated on   Eversholt (St. John the Baptist) Churchyard, Bedfordshire.  N.W. of the church.

Petty Officer C/JX 128275.  HMS “Cornwall” Royal Navy.  Died Sunday 5 April 1942.  Age 36.  Son of Thomas & Monica Poole of Eversholt, Bedfordshire.  Commemorated on   Chatham Naval memorial, Kent.  Ref. 52.1.  (Special note:  HMS Cornwall was dived bombed by the Japanese, west of Ceylon on 5th April 1942, with a loss of 190 men.)

Gunner 1102101.  64th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery.  Died Monday 27 September 1943.  Son of Thomas Joseph & Florence Mary Impey; husband of Ellen Rose Impey of Eversholt, Bucks.  Commemorated on   Salerno War Cemetery, Italy.  Ref. II.D.1
