CAMBRIDGE, R.A.F. BOMBER CRASH 1941

Extract from Cambridge Daily News in 1941: BOMBER'S NIGHT CRASH Women Killed at Cambridge TRAGIC END TO RAID JOURNEY WHEN an R.A.F. bomber returning from a raid crashed on top of some houses in the early hours of this morning three aged Cambridge women were killed instantly. They were: Miss Catharine Allen, 71, of 147, Histon Road. Mrs. Ann Warland, 70, of 1, Rosneath Villas, Histon Road. Mrs. Ada Sara Blackwell. 75, of No. 2, Rosneath Villas. A fourth woman, Mrs. Mary Hewitt, 82, who lived with Mrs. Blackwell, was taken to hospital in the police ambulance suffering from shock, but her condition was stated later to-day to be satisfactotry. The 'plane caught the tops of the houses Histon Road completely, wrecking the top storey of the villa. Afterwards it came to rest on a tennis court at the hack of the houses. The crew were uninjured.
