MAWGAN IN MENEAGE WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial stands beside the road, outisde the parish church. There are three names for World War 1 listed and just an inscription for World War 2; a further four names were later added for World War 1. The memorial takes the form of a Celtic cross mounted on a square plinth with a three-stepped base with the inscription on the front of the plinth.

Private 26537, 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Killed in action 4th October 1917 in France & Flanders. Aged 29. Born Mawgan, enlisted Helston. Son of W. T. and Elizabeth Cooke, of Rosevear, Mawgan-in-Meneage, Cornwall. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 80 to 82 and 163A

HAWKE

Thomas F

Pioneer 120281, Royal Engineers transferred to Private 293876, Southern Command Labour Centre, Labour Corps. Died 2nd November 1919 at home. Aged 46. Husband of Annie Hawke, of St. Keverne, Helston. Buried in St Mawgan Churchyard, Mawgan-in-Meneage, Cornwall.

TRELOAR

Richard John

[Listed as Richard T TRELOAR on memorial] Private 201973, [SDGW states 1st/5th] 3rd/4th Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Died at home 19th August 1918. Aged 33. Born Wendron, enlisted Bodmin, resident Mawgan. Son of the late William and Eliza Treloar; husband of Elizabeth Treloar, of Garras, Mawgan-in-Meneage. Buried in St Mawgan Churchyard, Mawgan-in-Meneage, Cornwall.
