The Brigham memorial is located in St Bridget's Churchyard, Brigham and takes the form of a rustic cross on a Aberdeen granite stone plinth and base with a lowe surrounding wall; the names for Wordl War 2 have been added at the base. There are 22 names listed for World War 1 and 16 for World War 2. THe memorial was first unveiled 5 March 1921 and the ceremony was attaended by the Bishop of Carlisle.

MOORE Samuel S
Lance Corporal. 2nd Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers. 27th May 1918 on memorial.

Samuel S Moore, born c 1889 at Brigham, Cumberland the son of William J and Elizabeth Moore. Present Brigham 1901 census. Joined King’s Own Scottish Borderers (Special Reserve) in 1909, transferring to Regular Army (Royal Scots Regiment) on 30th June 1910. Known to have served with Royal Scots Regiment at Lucknow, India in 1912 and as Private 87548 Samuel Moore of Royal Scots Regiment was declared deserter on 31st January 1917. Appears to have enlisted Royal Engineers as Sapper Patrick McConnell on 2nd February 1917, and was compulsorily transferred to Durham Light Infantry as Private 85487 on 12th April 1918. He was killed in action 27th May 1918 with 8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. Army identifies 87548 Moore (Royal Scots) and 85487 McConnell (Durham Light Infantry) as identical after correspondence with William J Moore (Father). Commemorated Soissons Memorial.
