Robert and Sarah Abbott, of 4, Rose Cottage, Cemetery Lane, Beer,
Devon. Albourer before enlisting. Enlisted 4 february 1906 for 12
years. Height 5 feet 7 inches. brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion.
No known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire.

Regulation Para 392 (xvi) 8 September 1917, issued Silver War
badge 11 September 1917 235870, aged 33 years 9 months, height 5
feet 6 inches, chest 38½ inches, weight 150lbs, fair complexion,
blue eyes, brown hair, shoeing smith by trade, intended place of
residence 26 Beer Street, West Henford, Teovil, Somerset, unmarried.
Served in South Africa 20 October 1909 to 11 December 1911, in India
12 December 1911 to 22 July 1917. Buried in BEER CHURCH CEMETERY,

Son of William and Anne Totfield Makieg-Jones, Husband of Dorothy Maud (nee Faulkener) Makieg-Jones of Torquay Devon, married April to June Quarter 1921 in Newton Abbot Registration Distict. No known grave. Commemorated on PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon. Panel 33, Column 1. See also Seaton Note: On 17th September 1939 Kapitanleutnant Otto Schuhart in the type V11 U-boat U29 torpedoed and sank H.M.S. Courageous in the south-west approaches, south west of Ireland. She went down within 20 minutes taking 518 of her compliment of 1200 with her, including her Commander Captain W.T. Makeig-Jones. Courageous started life as a large Light Cruiser and was converted to a fast Aircraft Carrier. Her 15 inch guns were removed and fitted to H.M.S. Vanguard. |
