The memorial stands outside St Michael's Church, Fore Street, beer, Devon. It takes the form of a cross, with a foliate design on the arms, set on a tapering shaft and square stone plinth with a three-stepped base. The inscription is in black lettering on the plinth later additions have been added to the steps. There are 25 names for World War 1 and 12 for World War 2.

Son of Robert and Sarah Abbott, of 4, Rose Cottage, Cemetery Lane, Beer, Devon. Albourer before enlisting. Enlisted 4 february 1906 for 12 years. Height 5 feet 7 inches. brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion. No known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire. Panel 12.
BARTLETT Anthony
Lance Corporal 391838, 9th (County of London) Battalion (Queen Victoria's Rifles), London Regiment. Killed in action 26 September 1917. Born 18 September 1896 in Beer, Devon, resident Kilburn, enlisted London. Son of William Bartlett. Admitted to Beer Church of England School 1899, left 11 January 1904. In the 1901 census he was aged 4, born Eaton, Devon, son of William and Sarah Bartlett, resident Drivers Court, Cemetery Lane, Beer, Axminster, Devon. In the 1911 census he was aged 14, born Seaton, Devon, son of William Robert and hannah Bartlett, resident 2 Clapps Lane, Beer, Devon. No known grave. Commemorated at TYNE COT MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 151.
CARSLAKE George
Private 20110, 1/5th Battalion, Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) formerly 13664, 12th Reserve Cavalry Regiment. Killed in action 15 July 1916. Born 12 November 1889 in Beer, Devon, enlisted Exeter. Admitted to Beer Church of England School in 1894, son of John Carslake, left 17 April 1896. Brother of William (below). In the 1911 census he was aged 21, born beer, Devon, a Farm Labourer, son of John and Annie Carslake, resident 4 Manor Cottages, Seaton, Devon. MACKEIG - JONES William [Totfield]

Captain, H.M.S. Courageous, Royal Navy. Died when his ship was torpedoed 7th September 1939. Aged 49. Son of William and Anne Totfield Makieg-Jones, Husband of Dorothy Maud (nee Faulkener) Makieg-Jones of Torquay Devon, married April to June Quarter 1921 in Newton Abbot Registration Distict. Note: On 17th September 1939 Kapitanleutnant Otto Schuhart in the type V11 U-boat U29 torpedoed and sank H.M.S. Courageous in the south-west approaches, south west of Ireland. She went down within 20 minutes taking 518 of her compliment of 1200 with her, including her Commander Captain W.T. Makeig-Jones. Courageous started life as a large Light Cruiser and was converted to a fast Aircraft Carrier. Her 15 inch guns were removed and fitted to H.M.S. Vanguard.

Note: H.M.S. Lanka was a shiore based establishment sited on Flagstaff Street in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Various shipping was seconded and run under the guise of the establishment such as S.S. Khedive Ismail.

H.M.S. Defiance was a training establishment at Devonport.
