WAR MEMORIAL
World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Bill Elleray 2006
The
Lees War Memorial on Thomas Street, Lees, at the entrance to Lees Cemetery.
It takes the form of a serviceman standing at ease on top of a two-tiered
plinth with a three-stepped base. The memorial originally stood in Lees
Town Centre was moved about 1980 due to danger from the traffic. There
are no names listed on the memorial for either conflict. The original
memorial, was erected in 1921 and then re-erected in 1949 when a further
plaque, in the form of two pages of a book, was added to commemorate
those who died in World War 2.
