OLDHAM WAR MEMORIAL

The Oldham war memorial stands outside St Mary's Church, Church Street, Oldham ad the edge of the Greaves Arms car park opposite the Town Hall. It takes the form of a pyramidal group of soldiers in a trench scene surmounting a square pedestal with panelled doors. The names of the fallen are to be found on on plaques on churchyard wall., there are 2,688 names for World War 1 ans 200 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled by General Sir Ian Hamilton and dedicated by the Bishop of Manchester 28th April 1923. The sculptor was Albert Toft and the architect Mr Thomas Taylor.
