The
memorial is located at the junction of Silver Street and Low Burgage.
It takes the form of a two stepped base surmounted by a plinth and
Celctic Cross with the inscription on the front face of the plinth
with an additional set of inscriptions on a stone set into the base
of the cross/ There is is a sword carved in releief on the front face
of the cross. There are 11 names for World War 1 and 4 for World War

memorial was erected by public subscription in honoured memory of the
undermentioned men from this parish who fell in the Great War A.D 1914
– 1919.

aged 53 years. Husband of Mary Ellen Field of Ferry Boat Inn, Winteringham,
Lincs. Born Scunthorpe, enlisted Grimsby, Lincs and resident Doncaster,
Yorks. He was on the Mercian, when he was wounded when attacked
by gunfire (not torpedo) from a German submarine, and died six weeks

to be one of four British gunners on the Norwegian vessel "South
