In the 1901 census he was aged 7, the son of William and Bee (Phoebe) Andrews, born Sydenham, Kent, resident 23 Cromwell Road, Wimbledon, Surrey. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, son of William and Phoebe Andrews, clerk for Messrs Snelling Snet Refiners, born Sydenham, Kent, resident The Laurels, Tharston, Norfolk.

Son of George and Emma Harwin, of 3, Scargells Road, High St., March, Cambs. Formerly 5342, 4th (Reserve) Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Unmarried. Assigned British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F.), embarked Folkestone and disembarked Boulogne 27 September 1916. Posted to 1st/1st Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment September 1916. Joined the 12th Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment, for duty in the field 15 October 1916. Prior to enlistment he was a Yardman. Height 5 feet 4¼ inches, weight 8 stones 4 lbs, chest 34½ inches. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born North Runcton, Norfolk, resident with his parents at Cottage, Hilton Lane, North Runcton, Norfolk. Admiited 17 September 1906 to Tharston School, Tharston, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born North Runcton Norfolk, a Yard Boy and Bullock Tendler, resident with his parets at Wood Farm, Tharston, Long Stratton, Norfolk. In the 1911 census he was the head of the family, aged 20, a Bricklayer's Labourer, born Tharston, resident Highfield Cottages, Tharston, Long Stratton, Norfolk; living with him was his brother Jack. In the 1901 census he as aged 10, son of Charles and Jane Pidgeon, born Tharston, resident Tharston Street, Tharston, Depwade, Norfolk; he had four brothers Arthur, Frederick (see above), Walter (see above) and John (see below). In the 1891 census he was aged 3, son of Thomas and Sarah Sheldrake, born Hapton, Norfolk, resident Hapton Street, Hapton, Depwade, Norfolk. In the 1901 census he is the son of Thomas and Esther (2nd wife) Sheldrake, aged 13, an errand boy, born Hapton, Norfolk, resident Tharston Street, Tharston, Depwade, Norfolk; his brother George is listed above. In the 1911 census he is aged 22, lodging with James Long, in Forncett St Mary, Long Stratton, Norfolk. Previously Sapper 152898, 120th Railway Company, Royal Enigneers - platelayer proficient, transferred to 9th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment, 7 September 1916. Entitled to British War and Victory Medals.
