This memorial at Bloemfontein commemorates the Boer War. It stands in the local cemetery and commemorated all those who died from the United Kingdom. Nearby is a further memorial to the men of the Royal Engineers, 20th Company, who fell.

2nd Corporal 27118. In early 1900, the Company, while at work on the front lines, seven miles away from camp, got caught in a terrible sandstorm. They went on a long march back to camp with little water and "half-suffocated with sand." O'Leary was overcome by the ordeal and died.

Corporal 20643. Died during the early morning hours of 14 June, 1900. The sappers were in a skirmish with the Boers near Leeuwspruit and "Spud" Daniels was shot and mortally wounded by a party of six Boer riders who attacked their train.

Lance Corporal 28312. Wounded in a battle at Roodewal on 7 June 1900. He died a week later.

Sapper 29742. Drowned at Norval's Pont (the 20th Coy. was making bridge repairs there) in the spring of 1900. His body was never recovered.

DAVIES

Sapper 1168. In the summer of 1900, near Johannesburg, Boer saboteurs derailed the train the 20th Company was riding. Davies was thrown from the train and one of the cars ran over his arm and leg, severing them. He died shortly afterwards.
