Lieutenant Colonel, Devon and Cornwall Light Infantry. Killed in action in Polygon Wood, Flanders on the 4th October 1917, aged 28 years, whilst commanding the 9th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Only son of Major and Mrs R Holford Daniell of Broadleigh. Awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and the Military Cross (M.C.). There is a commemorative plaque within the church for this man which also lists details of the other 5 who died. |
