Age 41 -Son of the late Sir John Blois (8th Bart), of Grundisburgh and Cockfield Hall and of Dowager Lady Blois of 8 Ennismore Gardens, South Kensington, London. husband of Georgiana Blois (daughter of Admiral Sir Compton Domvile, G.C.O., G.C.V.O.). Buried at Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly-Le-Sec. Lt Col Blois is also commemorated on Yoxford War Memorial

L.G. 14.1.16); b. 12.2.75 ; s. of late Sir John Blois (8th Bart.) and Dowager Lady Blois; m. 1914, Georgina Isabella Frances, 2nd d. of Admiral Sir Compton Domvile, G.C.B., G.C.V.O. ; one son; one d.: educ. Wellington ; 2nd Lt., R.A., 1894 Major 17.1 1.11 ; served S. Africa (Despatches; Queen’s Med., 4 clasps ; King's Med., 2 clasps) ; Europ. War, 1914—16, serving in all parts of the British line; was present at 2nd Battle of Ypres, taking part in actions at Hill 60; advance on the Somme 14.7.16. Lt.-Col. Blois fell in action. The following is an extract from a letter from his General, under date July, 1916 : "I had the greatest reliance on his courage, coolness and judgment. His Brigade had done extremely well in the recent operations, and the General Commanding the infantry Brigade with which he has always been affiliated had particularly asked me to say that both he and all his Brigade feel they have lost a friend and an Artillery Commander in whom they had the greatest confidence. . . . We all respected him; he was a gallant soldier and died doing his duty.”

Leading Seaman 237348, Royal Navy – HMS Negro. Died 21/12/1916. Age 26. Son of Benjamin and Mary Borrett of Station Road, Blythburgh. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. On 21st December 1916, HMS Negro was escorted another vessel, HMS Hoste, to Scapa Flow for repairs when the two vessels collided. Depth charges from the deck of HMS Hoste exploded and blew out the bottom of HMS Negro with the loss of her entire crew

Deck Hand 5360DA, Royal Naval Reserve – HM Trawler Strathrannoch. Died 06/04/1917. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial. On 6th April 1917, HM Trawler Strathrannoch was sunk in deep water off Eyemouth. The cause of the loss is unclear but believed to be after hitting a mine

Deck Hand 8085DA, Royal Naval Reserve – HM Drifter Qui Sait. Died 03/12/1918. Age 46. Husband of Mary Ann Kett of Box Tree Cottage, Blythburgh. Buried at Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery. HM Drifter Qui Sait was hired by the British government between 1915 and 1919 – further research is required to identify what she was used for and why Deck Hand Kett was in Malta
