Durrington is an area now swallowed up by Worthing, now part of West Worthing. The memorial can be found within St. Symphorium Parish Church. There are 14 surnames and christian names on a brass tablet. Seven of the names are included on the main Worthing memorial in Chapel Road and seven not.

Sergeant G.16388 13th Battalion The Royal Sussex Regiment 39th Division. Died of wounds in base hospital at Boulogne 5 May 1918. Aged 32 Son of Harry & Augusta Bennett of Gordon House, Pond Lane, Durrington. Resident of East Preston. Born and enlisted in Worthing. Included on East Preston Parish Church War Memorial. Buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery

John Merritt

Bombardier 39177, 14th Brigade H. Q., Royal Garrison Artillery. Killed in action near Loos 13 October 1915. Aged 30. Son of John Samuel & Ansley Bowers of Durrington. Born in Worthing and enlisted in Newhaven. Commemorated on The Loos Memorial.

DOUGLAS

Cedric [Christian]

Gunner 900426. 70th Battery, 34th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (T.F.). Died of wounds 18 September 1918. Aged 29 .Son of Edwin & Christina Maria Douglas of Fox Down, Findon. Born and enlisted in Worthing. Buried in Varennes Military Cemetery.

Private G/2767, 8th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 14 January 1916. Aged 19. Born Tarring, enlisted Worthing. Son of Mrs. Harriet Standing, of 2, South View, Durrington, Worthing. Buried in Meaultie Military Cemetery.

Corporal G/40336, 16th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Killed in action near Arras 31 May 1917. Aged 33. Son of Mr & Mrs Charles Stenning of Durrington. Husband of Mrs H L Stenning of 14, The High Street, Tarring. Born in Loxwood and enlisted in Chichester. Commemorated on The Arras Memorial.

Captain, The Royal Sussex Regiment attached to the Royal Air Force. Killed in action 29 September 1918. Aged 26. Son of Alfred and Helen Symons of West Tarring.
