World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information

The memorial is to be found within St. Alban's Parish Church, Frant. The memorials take the form of a two plaques. For World War 1 a brass plaque is set into an ornate wooden frame with the dedication written on the plaque in black and red lettering and featuring a black cross in the top centre. The frame has the relief of a crown at the top and grape and vine design on the sides. For World War 2 there is a wall-mounted brass plaque with a wooden backboard with the dedication is printed in relief. There are 42 names for World War 1 and 7 for World War 2.

Lieutenant, 202 Squadron Flying DH 4s, Royal Air force. Shot down and killed by a Fokker DVll near Zevekote 16 July 1918. Aged 19. Lt Ashfield was an ace having destroyed seven German aircraft. Son of Charles and Ida Ashfield. Charles Ashfield was the Headmaster of Frant School. Born in Wootton Bassett Wiltshire Educated at Marlborough College Individual tablet in St Albans Church. Buried in Ramscappelle Road Cemetery

Admiral CVO Royal Navy Joined Royal Navy in 1864 rear Admiral in 1905 Retired as Admiral in 1913 Temp Com. as Capt in the Royal Naval Reserve 1914. Son of Seriker Finnis Mayor of Dover Husband of Anne Finnis of Hartfield. Died at home of sickness 17 November 1918. Aged 67. Buried in St Albans Churchyard Frant.

Lost when on the 12 February 1944, the Troopship Khedive Ismail was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine off the African coast.
