MILTON BRYAN WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is located in The Old Rectory, St Peter's Church, Milton bryan. It takes the form of a brass plaque mounted on an oak board with crossed flags at the top of the brass plaque. The names are listed in order of date of death and there are six men listed. The memorila was dedicated by Rector Canon Parr and unveiled by the Duke of Bedford January 1921. The names here have been sorted into alphabetical order for ease of reading and research.

Private 33552, 13th (Service) (1st Barnsley) Battalion, York And Lancaster Regiment. Killed in action 28 March 1918. Born Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire, resident Woburn, Bedfordshire, enlisted Luton. Buried in BUCQUOY ROAD CEMETERY, FICHEUX, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row B. Grave 3.

COX Arthur George
1916 - possibly Arthur George Gilbert COX, Acting Corporal 11648, 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Killed in action 16 September 1916. Aged 26. Born and resident Eversholt, Bedfordshire, enlisted Devonport. Son of Frederick and Alice Mary Cox, of Eversholt, Woburn, Bedfordshire. Buried in VERMELLES BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Plot V. Row C. Grave 6.
MATTHEWS George

Private 19268, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds 29 May 1917. Born Battlesden, Bedfordshire, Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire, enlisted Bedford. Buried in NIEDERZWEHREN CEMETERY, KASSEL, Hessen, Germany. Plot VI. Row A. Grave 12.

MILLARD Oliver Thomas

Lance Corporal 30451, Bedfordshire Yeomanry attached to 15th (The King's) Hussars. Died of wounds 12 August 1918. Aged 25. Born and resident Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire, enlisted Dunstable. Son of the late William W. and Elizabeth Millard, of Leys Farm, Milton Bryan, nr. Woburn, Bedfordshire. Enlisted Sept. 14th, 1914, served in France, from June 7th, 1915, to date of death. Buried in CROUY BRITISH CEMETERY, CROUY-SUR-SOMME, Somme, France. Plot V. Row C. Grave 25.

SAUNDERS Frederick John
Private 10192, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 8 November 1914. Aged 22. Born Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire, resident Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire, enlisted Leighton Buzzard. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Saunders, of 6, Milton Bryan, Woburn, Bedfordshire. Buried in HARLEBEKE NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot XV. Row B. Grave 1.
SMITH Frederick William
Lance Corporal 17777, 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Killed in action 12 October 1916. Born and resident Milton Bryan, Bedfordshire, enlisted Bedford. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 2 C.
