The memorial to the dead of the South African War is a roughly carved hunk of granite standing on three granite steps in Ward Jackson Park, the largest of the town's public parks. Although the sides are rough, the top is smooth. Although the bronze soldier is show below the statue was cut off at the ankles one night and now only the plinth remains with the inscriptions. The names listed below are in alphabetical order for ease of reading which is idfferent to the order on the memorial.
