Awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and Mentioned in Despatches. In the 1891 census he was aged 6, born Reading, Berkshire, son of Louis de Luze and Mary E Simonds, resident The Point, Bath Road, Reading, Berkshire. In the 1901 census he was aged 16, born Reading, berkshire, a Pupil, resident St Mary's Cottage, Winchester St Michael, Winchester, Hampshire. In the 1911 census he was aged 26, born Reading, Berkshire, single, an Officer His Majesty's Land Forces, Lieutenant, Staff South China Command, billeted at Head Quarters Staff, South China Command, Hong Kong, China. Buried in Mazingarbe Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France Plot I. Row F. Grave 12. Extract from The V.C. and D.S.O. Summerfields, Oxford, and Winchester, which he entered in 1897 as first on the roll of scholars. He went to Woolwich in 1901, and joined the R.G.A. 15.7.03 ; Lt. 15.7.09 ; Capt. 30.10.14 ; A Major. He served in Malta and Hong Kong. He was in India when war broke out, and proceeded thence with a mountain battery to the front in Dec. 1914, where he served almost continuously up to 21.4.17, when he was killed in action. His D.8.O. was awarded for services while acting as artillery liaison officer with the R.F.C. |
