Note: HMS Good Hope was a 14,100-ton Drake-class armoured cruiser of the Royal Navy; she was originally planned to be named Africa, but was renamed before she was launched. Laid down on 11th September 1899 and launched on 21st February 1901. She was sunk along with HMS Monmouth by the German armoured cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau under Admiral Graf Maximilian von Spee with the loss of her entire complement of 900 hands in the Battle of Coronel, on 1st November 1914, off the Chilean coast.

Note: HMS Stronghold was an Admiralty S Class Destroyer (Pennant H 50). She was built by Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. (Greenock, Scotland), ordered June 1917, laid down March 1918, launched 6th May 1919 and commissioned 2nd July 1919. On 2nd March 1942 a Japanese task group consisting of the heavy cruiser Maya and the destroyers Arashi and Nowaki, belonging to a Japanese carrier force operating south of Java, discovered and sank HMS Stronghold (Lt.Cdr. G.R. Pretor-Pinney, R.N.), fleeing from Tjilatjap to Australia. Stronghold sank at 18:58 hours at position 12.20S, 112.0E. About fifty survivors were picked up by the small Dutch merchant Bintoehan that later transferred them to Maya.
