The Whitchurch All Hallows memorial is located on the wall of the south aisle of All Hallows Church, Whitchurch. It takes the form of a tablet of grey stone with a British Legion flag above and memorial book with photographs of many of the fallen on display at the base of the memorial. THe names listed are for World War 1 only and number 62. The memorial lists the fallen by regiment/service but have been sorted into alphabetical order here for reading and research purposes.

Born Kiddington, Oxon, attested, enlisted, and embodied 8 September 1914 at Swindon. Son of Charles Woodfine Bangs and Selina Bangs, of 97, St. George's Road, Reading, formerly "Caynham," Winchester Road, Whitchurch, Hampshire. Civilian occupation Finisher, in the Locomotive and Carriage Department, Swindon. In the 1901 census he was the son of Charle Woodfine and Selina Bangs, aged 9, born Kidlington, Oxfordshire, resident Vine Cottages, 4, Bicester Market End, Bicester, Oxfordshire. In the 1911 census he was the son of Charle Woodfine and Selina Bangs, aged 18, born Kidlington, Oxon, a Carpenter, resident 57 Priory Road, Bicester, Bicester Market End, Oxfordshire. At enlistment apparent age 22 years 7 months, height 5 feet 6 inches, weight 160 lbs, girth 34½ to 36½ inches. Sub-Lieutenant, H.M.S. Morris, Royal Navy. Died at home from illness 24 May 1918. Aged 21. Son of Charles and Clara Denning, of The Hermitage, Whitchurch, Hampshire; brother of John Edward Newdigate Poyntz Denning (below). In the 1901 census he was the son of Charles and Calara Denning, aged 3, born Whitchurch, Hampshire, resident Newbury Street, Whitchurch, Hampshire. Appointed Temporary Midshipman 31 December 1914. Served at the Battle of Jutland 30 June 1916. Appointed Acting Sub-Lieutenant 30 June 1916 and Sub-Lieutenant 28 February 1917. Buried in right-hand plot of WHITCHURCH (ALL HALLOWS) CHURCH CEMETERY, Hampshire.

DENNING, JOHN EDWARD NEWDIGATE POYNTZ, Capt., 1st Battn. (10th Foot) The Lincolnshire Regt., eldest s. of Charles Denning, of Whitchurch, co. Hants, by his wife, Clara, dau. of J. T. Thompson, of The Avenue, Lincoln; b. Whitchurch aforesaid, 17 Oct. 1892; educ. privately; joined the Territorials in 1913: volunteered for foreign service on the outbreak of war in Aug. 1914, and served with the R.G.A. at Southsea Castle until 8 April, 1915, when he was gazetted 2nd Lieut. 3rd (Reserve) Battn. Lincolnshire Regt.; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, being for a time attached to the 5th Entrenching Battn., in which he served as Acting Adjutant; transferred to the Regular Army, and joined his unit in Feb. 1916; was slightly wounded in June, but returned to the firing line, and died in No. 36 Casualty Clearing Station 20 Sept. 1916, from wounds received in, action during the attack on Guendecourt. Buried in Heilly Military Cemetery Mericourt l'Abbe. Major H. C. C. Orr wrote: “He was a very good officer, and he had a good way with him; I was greatly taken with him during the short time I have been with the battalion.” Unm.
