KINGUSSIE
WAR MEMORIAL
World
War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Transcribed Martin Edwards 2018
The
Kingussie war memorial located opposite the Duke of Gordon Hotel at
the south end of village, at the junction of High Street and Station
Road, Kingussie. It takes the form of a Celtic Cross of polished
grey granite with a carved badge of the Cameron Highlanders on front,
at the base of the shaft, and a Gaelic motto below; the whole is set
on a square plinth of granite blocks, with an inset of inscription and
names panels, on a two-stepped base in the centre of a circular paved
area surrounded by garden beds and lawns. The memorial was dedicated
in 1921. There are 60 names listed for World War 1 and 22 for World
War 2 plus one civilian from World War 2. The names are ordered by regiment/service
on the memorial but have been sorted here into alphabetical order within
conflict for ease of reading and research.
