BELTON WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and Copyright © Michael Peck 2007

The Belton memorial stands on Grey Green at the junction with King Edward Street and the A161. It takes the form of a four stepped base surmounted by a plinth, column, cornice and a figure of a serviceman standing at the "ready" with his rifle in his hands. Two sides of the column contain the inscriptions for World War 1 with the inscriptions for World War 2 on a stone at the front of the memorial on a stone that has been carved into the shape of an open book. There are 30 names for World War 1 and 10 names for World War 2. Details of the original unveiling can be found in the newspaper "Epworth Bells" for the 16 April 1919, May 1919 and 7 November 1920. In 1987 the inscription was repainted.
