Leading Seaman 237135, H.M.S. "Cressy," Royal Navy. Lost in action (drowned) in the North Sea when his ship was sunk by german submarine 22 September 1914. Aged 25. Born 13 February 1889 in Lincoln. Fitter and Turner before enlisting. Enlisted 13 February 1907 for 12 years. Son of Samuel and Sarah Ann Spendlow, of Reepham, Lincoln. Height 5 feet 6½ inches, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion. No known grave. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, Kent. Panel 1.

[SDGW has Tomm 2700.] Private 27049, 1st Battalion, Royal Lancaster Regiment. Killed in action 23 October 1916. Aged 33. Born North Hykeham, enlisted Lincoln. Son of Philip Tonn of Reepham, Lincoln.; husband of Harriett Tonn, of Besthorpe Rd., North Collingham, Newark. Formerly 16133 Lincs Regiment. Buried in GUARDS' CEMETERY, LESBOEUFS, Somme, France. PLot IV. Row Y. Grave 9.

Private 13406, 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 16 June 1915. Born Reepham, enlisted Lincoln. No known grave. Commemorated on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Thomas Hugh Corbett

Captain, 2nd/8th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Killed in action 27 April 1917. Aged 28. Son of Reginald & Nora Woolley of Lincoln. Husband of Violet Joan Woolley, of 22 Redcliffe Sq. Sth. Kensington, London. Buried in Templeux-le Guerard British Cemetery. Plot I. Row C. Grave 28.

WOOLLEY, THOMAS HUGH CORBETT, Capt., 2/8th (Territorial) Battn. The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regt.), eldest s. of Reginald Smith Woolley, F.S.A., of 12, Minster Yard, Lincoln, Land Agent (retired Major and Hon. Lieut.-Colonel, 4th Sherwood Foresters), by his wife, Nora G. (—) ; b. Lincoln, 20 Oct. 1888 ; educ. privately ; at Folkestone, and Lancing College ; was a member of the firm of Messrs. Smith, Woolley & Wigram, Estate Agents, Collingham ; gazetted 2nd Lieut. 8th Sherwood Foresters, 30 June, 1906 ; retired in 1910, but rejoined on outbreak of war, being promoted Lieut. 1 Sept. 1914, and Temporary Capt. 5 Nov. following ; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, and was killed in action 27 April, 1917. Burled in Templeux-le-Gérard British Cemetery. Lieut.-Colonel Oaths, In a letter, stated that he was gallantly leading his company when he fell. He was mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette, 21 Dec. 1917], by F.M. Sir Douglas Haig, for gallant and distinguished service in the field. He m. at St. Saviour's, Walton Street, London, S.W., 11 Sept. 1913, Violet Joan (South Collingham, Newark), eldest den. of the late George Tanner, of Frenchay, near Bristol, and had a flan Vera Joan. b. 15 Nov. 1916.
