STURTON BY STOW, LANCASTER FARM WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is to a Lancaster crew which perished on a farm in Lincolnshire. the farm is now called Lancaster Farm and is situated on the Roman Road to the south east of Sturton by Stow Lincolnshire, map ref SK899800. In 1943 Swinderby was the operational training station for No. 5 Group including No. 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit using Manchesters and Lancasters.

Oldfield's farm, Sturton-by-Stow
Airborne from Swinderby, the aircraft broke up in flight after the starboard wing failed. The aircraft crashed at 1005 at Oldfield's Farm. F/O S.R. Jones KIA, Sgt W.T. Raeside KIA, F/O P.M. Krish KIA, F/O S. Hoy KIA, Sgt J. Westwood KIA, F/S G.W. Kennedy RCAF KIA, Sgt T.H. Jackson KIA, LAC E.R. Redfern KIA.

Son of Serge and Jessie Krish, husband of Tanya Krish, of Fulham, London (the elder daughter of the great pianist Benno Moiseiwitsch and violinist Daisy Kennedy). Buried in WILLESDEN JEWISH CEMETERY, Willsden, Middlesex. Section GX. Row 6. Grave 270.

Sergeant (Flight Engineer) 1120014, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 12th February 1943. Aged 26. Son of Robert and Mary Raeside, of Kilmarnock; husband of Anna Raeside, of Kilmarnock. Buried in KILMARNOCK CEMETERY, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Section R. Grave 1041.

Son of Herbert and Agnes Dorothea Hoy, of Hull; husband of Violet Hoy, of Beverley. Buried in HULL EASTERN CEMETERY, Hull, Yorkshire. Compartment 158. Joint Grave 27.
