WADDINGHAM WAR MEMORIAL

The memorial is located in the grounds of St Mary's and St Peter's Church, Waddingham. It takes the form of an granite obelisk that stands on a granite plinth that bears the inscription. The inscription is spread on all four faces, the additional names added for World War 2 are added on the three faces containing the names of theose who fell in World War 1. The whole monument stands on a concrete two-stepped base. There are fifteen names for World War 1 and 6 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled and dedicated on 7th September 1919. Within the church is a framed and glazed Roll of Honour containing the same sames in balck ink in four columns.

COOK	Walter	Sapper WR/305817. Inland Water Transport, Royal Engineers, formerly 2529 Lincolnshire Regiment. Died at home 28th July 1918, aged 27 years. CHURCHILL	Dennis [Arthur]	Flight Sergeant (Air Gnr) 1332240. 51 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Killed in Cowleaze Wood, near Stokenchuch, on the return jouney from a raid on Nuremburgh 31st March 1944. Commemorated GREENWICH CEMETERY. Plot D. Grave 441.
DICKINSON	[George] Charles	Flight Sergeant (Air Bomber) 1451857, 15 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Missing from an operational flight, on what would have been his 22nd birthday, the official telegram came (18 February 1945) to say he had been killed in action 9 February 1945. Aged 21. Son of George William (a Police Constable) and Lily Beatrice Mary Louisa Dickinson, of Waddingham, Lincolnshire; brother of Dorothy Margaret Bell (nee Dickisnon) known as Peggy. Educated at Brigg Grammar School. Joined the Lincolnshire Police Cadets and went on to the Brimingham City Police. Volunteered for the RAF 3 July 1941 in Lincoln. Buried in BRUSSELS TOWN CEMETERY, Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium. Plot X. Row 28. Grave 16.
MARGETSON	Arthur	Private 4533326. 7th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment. Died 7th August 1944, aged 34 years. Son of George Edward and Rose Margetson, husband of Ruby Margetson of Brandy Wharf, Lincs. Commemorated FONTENAY-LE-PESNEL WAR CEMETERY, Tessel. I.B.17.
