The Forres war memorial is located at the West end of Bridge Street, immediately South of the roundabout, across the river from Castle Hill on Market Green, St Catherine's Road, Forres. It takes the form of a helmeted highland soldier standing at ease on a pedestal of whinstone blocks with the three crests of the Seaforths, Gordons and Admiralty; leading south from the memorial is an avenue of trees. The memorial was designed by L Marshall MacKenzie of Aberdeen and the sculptor was Mr Alexander Carrick RSA RBS. The memorial was dedicated by Rev. W. P. Wishart, B.D., from the Parish Church and unveiled by Mrs A. Grant, widow of Mr A. Grant of Messrs McVitie and Price, who was killed in the war, on 23 August 1922. There are 179 names listed for World War 1, 54 names for World War 2 and one for the Gulf War. For each conflict the names are listed by contingent/service and then rank; they have been sorted into alphabetical order within contingent here for ease of reading and research.
