LIDZBARK WARMINSKI WAR CEMETERY, POLAND

The Lidzbark Warminski War Cemetery is adjacent to the Lidzbark Warminski town border from north-east, it is located in Markajmy suburb, approx. 300 metres to the right (south-east) of road 51. Please note that this cemetery is located in Lidzbark Warminski and NOT Lidzbark which is another town in the same province, but the two towns are 150 km away from each other. There are 39 Casulaties buried here from the First World War.

The men buried here were held alongside thousands of Russians at the Heilsberg prisoner of war camp and died in 1918 and were buried in a nearby cemetery, but after it deteriorated in the 1960s, they were remembered with a memorial 75 miles away. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission subsequently rebuilt the cemetery as it is now which was dedicated on 16 May 2014.

EMBLETON	William	Private 291809, "C" Company, 1st/5th Battalion (Territorial), Northumberland Fusiliers. Died as a German Prisoner of War 4 November 1918. Aged 24. Born and resident Bedlington, Northumberland, enlisted Newcastle-On-Tyne. Son of Thomas Embleton, of 20, Beech Grove, Bedlington, Northumberland, and the late Margaret Embleton. He was slightly wounded in the knee by shrapnel at Etaples 16 April 1917. In the 1901 census he was aged 6, born bedlington, Northumberland, son of Thomas and Margaret Embleton, resident Front Street, Holly Mount, Bedlington, Morpeth, Durham & Northumberland. In the 1911 census he was aged 16, born Bedlington, Northumberland, a Coal miner pony driver below ground, son of Thomas and Charlotte Anne Embleton (married 1905), resident Beech Grove Bedlington, Northumberland. Originally commemorated on Malbork Memorial, Poland. Buried in grave 10
FOOT	Frederick William	Private PO/1711 (S), 2nd Royal Marine Battalion. Royal Naval Division, Royal Marine Light Infantry. Died from disease as a Prisoner of War in German hands 1 August 1918. Born 1 October 1886. Husband of Mary Foot, of Newtown, Charlton Marshall, Nr. Blandford, Dorset. Enlisted 11 December 1915, aged 29 years 2 months, a Small Holder by trade, religious denomination Wesleyan, height 5 feet 7¾ inches. Originally listed as being buried in Heilsberg Prisoner of War Cemetery, East Prussia, Germany. Buried in grave 2155. Buried in grave 11.
