The memorial is carved on the oak lintel of the lych gate at the entrance to St. Nicholas Church, Bamber. One side reads ‘In memoriam 1914-1918’. The reverse side lists the names, rank, and regiment, of the eight servicemen who died serving their country. The one man for World War 2 is listed a a separate brass plaque.

In memoriam 1914-1918

CLUER, M.M.	Jesse Moore	Corporal. Service No 14865 D Battery 70th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action 13th April 1917. Aged 24.Husband of Ellen May Jenner (formerly Cluer) of Bramber, Sussex. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
GOLDSMITH	John Edward	Lance Corporal. Service No SD/3772 13th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action, at the Battle of Boars Head 30th June 1916. Aged 21. Son of John Edward and Eliza Goldsmith of Upper Chaneton, Washington, Sussex. John has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
JENNER	George Alfred	Private. Service No10886 7th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. Died of wounds 18th July 1916. Aged 18. Son of Alfred James & Emily Charlotte Jenner of Yew Tree Cottage, Bramber, Sussex. Native of Bramber. George is buried at the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
KEYWOOD	Herbert Ernest Samuel	Private. Service No 432755. Labour Corp. Previously G/13535 Royal Sussex Regiment. Died 16th December 1917 at 2nd General Eastern Hospital, Brighton. Son of Mrs E G Keywood of The Villas, Bramber, Sussex.Herbert is buried in St Nicholas Churchyard, Bramber, Sussex.
LING	Cecil William	Lance Corporal Service No R/19587 2nd Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corp. Died of wounds 9th September 1916. Son of William Ling. Cecil is buried at the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longuevel, Somme, France.
PARSONS	Francis Walter	Private. Service No 3515 1/7th Middlesex Regiment. Died of wounds 14th September 1916. Aged 24. Son of William & Sarah Parsons. Francis is buried at the La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie, Somme, France
SMITH	James Vernon	Private. Sevice No G/16311 12th Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 17th October 1916. Aged 24. Husband of Mary Matilda Smith of 31 Chapel Road, Fishersgate, Portslade, Sussex. James is buried at the Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval, Somme, France.
SUGDEN	Guy Hatton	Lieutenant. 3rd Battalion attached to 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington (West Riding Regiment) Killed in action 12th October 1916. The son of Hatton Greenwood Sugden & Judith Elizabeth Sugden of Burletts, Bramber, Sussex. Native of Hereford. Guy is buried at the Guards’ Cemetery, Lesboeufs, Somme, France.
IN MEMORIAM 1939-1945
FELTON	Walter Bartlett	Second Lieutenant 98985, 57 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. Killed in the Battle of Dunkirk 24th May 1940. Aged 20. Son of Percy William and Sarah Joan Felton, of Steyning, Sussex. Buried in Dunkirk Town Cemetery, Nord, France. Plot 2 Row 7 Grave 41.
