GUILDHALL, WORCESTER - WAR MEMORIAL

World War 1 - Roll of Honour with detailed information
Compiled and copyright © 2004 - Transcribed Sandra Taylor

The memorial is situated inside the Guildhall, which is in the centre of the High Street and is open to the public. It is a Roll Of Honour that lists the names of every citizen of Worcester who saw active service during World War 1 (not just those who were in the Worcester Regiment or even in the forces). There are 4981 names listed, of whom 741 were killed. Those who died have a gold cross beside their names (for the purposes of this transcription we have used a red cross as the gold did not show up very clearly). The Roll of Honour is situated behind six wooden panels in the entrance hall, each with double doors that open easily. They are not recorded in total alphabetical order as new names have been added over the years as visitors etc. come forward with details of a relative/ancestor who has been missed off for whatever reason.

To document this memorial it has been necessary, due to the size, to split the this memorial into several pages. The first six show the various panels with names and there is a further set of pages for those who died which in itself has been split.
